September 28, 2018 - Consumer Energy Alliance Conference on Economic Development, Workforce Development and Infrastructure needs of the Oil & Gas Industry (Energy Innovation Center & Institute, Pittsburgh, PA)

The Consumer Energy Alliance is the voice of the energy consumer.  They are based in Houston, TX and provide consumers with sound, unbiased information on U.S. and global energy issues.  Their EVP – Mid-Atlantic, Michael Butler, was the host and facilitator of the conference. 

There were 2 panel discussions that covered a multitude of subjects surrounding the PA oil & gas industry’s economic impact and workforce development issues. 

Panel 1 focused on the present and future natural gas economy and included:

  • Kevin Sunday, Director of Legislative Affairs, PA Chamber of Business & Industry; Charlie Schliebs, Partner, Stone Pier Capital and Board Member of the Energy Innovation Center & Institute; Bruce McKay, Sr. Policy Director, Dominion Gas; David Spigelmyer, President, Marcellus Shale Coalition.

Panel 2 focused on the present and future workforce development needs to power the natural gas economy and included:

  • Jim Kunz, Jr., Business Manager and International VP of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 66; Darrin Kelly, President, Allegheny County Labor Council; Ryan Sandmann, Legislative Representative, Laborers’ International Union of North America. 

Following the panel discussions was a presentation by Alan Armstrong, CEO of Williams Companies.  Mr. Armstrong addressed the federal and state regulatory environment the face when proposing and installing pipelines across Pennsylvania.  

The keynote address of the event was given by Hon. Ryan Zinke, US Secretary of the Interior.
