UGI Energy Services plans spring West Wyoming pipeline extenstion

Although it's related to the stalled compressor station project in West Wyoming, a new natural gas facility planned for the borough is a separate entity, UGI officials say. Starting this spring, UGI Energy Services will begin constructing its Auburn Line extension, which involves running about 28 miles of 24-inch diameter pipeline from an existing natural gas facility in Washington Township, Wyoming County, to connect to the Transco interstate pipeline in West Wyoming.



Federal charges filed in Youngstown brine dumping incident

Federal charges were filed against the man accused of dumping more than a quarter million gallons of fracking wastewater and drilling mud into the Mahoning River Watershed, officials announced Thursday. "Today a criminal complaint was unsealed in federal court charging Ben Lupo with violating the Clean Water Act," said U.S. Attorney Steven M. Dettelbach at a press conference Thursday along the Mahoning River in Youngstown, Ohio.



Mansfield distributes Act 13 monies, donates to regional water task force

Borough council decided to distribute monies it received through the state's Act 13 natural gas impact fee and also decided to donate $5,000 from the general fund to the regional water task force's search for a new water source during its meeting Wednesday.



Chambersburg gets grant to build compressed natural gas station

The Borough of Chambersburg has been awarded a state grant to help build a compressed natural gas fueling station. The Redevelopment Assistance Capitalization Program Grant worth $500,000 was awarded to the borough to assist in the construction of the compressed natural gas, or CNG, fueling station at a site the borough is leasing near the intersection of Wayne Avenue (Pa. 316) and Interstate 81, according to a news release from the borough.



Senate Environmental Committee approves two bills

The Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, chaired by Senator Gene Yaw (R-23), approved two bills on Tuesday. The first, Senate Bill 411, would limit the treatment liability of entities that choose to utilize acid mine water (AMD) for hydraulic fracturing of oil/gas wells, or other industrial uses.



Shell Chemical still deciding on plans for Pennsylvania feedstock plant

Officials with Shell Chemical LP are still trying to decide if they want to access the shale gas boom and build a plastic feedstock plant in western Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh-based Horsehead Corp., the owner of the parcel of land where Shell has proposed the new plant, announced on Dec. 26 that it has given Shell a six-month extension for Shell to evaluate the site in Monaca, Pa.



Drilling boom feeds need for flights between Pittsburgh and small airports

The boom in drilling for Marcellus shale natural gas is fueling a demand for more flights between Pennsylvania's smaller airports and Pittsburgh International Airport, officials said Tuesday. "The Marcellus shale is the driving force behind the (commuter) service. We think it will be a viable service," said Gabe Monzo, executive director of the Westmoreland County Airport Authority and chairman of the Pennsylvania Air Service Committee.
