Erie company pays $250,000 fine for Marcellus Shale violations

September 25, 2014

An Erie company has paid a $250,000 fine for multiple violations of the Clean Streams Law and Department of Environmental Protection regulations while doing Marcellus Shale natural gas pipeline work in Lycoming County.

The violations by NFG Midstream Trout Run occurred during the installation of a gathering pipeline system in five townships during 2011 and 2012, DEP said Wednesday.

NFG's failure to implement and maintain erosion and sediment control practices resulted in discharges into unnamed tributaries to Mill Creek and Lycoming Creek, Lycoming Creek itself and an exceptional value wetland, said John Ryder, director of district oil and gas operations.
