FAA approves next step to permit drilling on Pittsburgh International Airport property

Drilling for natural gas at Pittsburgh International Airport will not affect the Indiana bat, the short-eared owl, the northern harrier bird or the eastern small-footed myotis, a protected species of bat, the Federal Aviation Administration ruled.

The FAA reviewed an environmental assessment prepared by Consol Energy and the Allegheny County Airport Authority, and found the project "would not create any significant environmental impacts," according to a statement from the agency.
