Local companies work to make the cut in oil and gas

PERRY TWP. - In the welding shop of its Whipple Avenue SW plant, Gaspar Inc. is building the calling card it hopes will be its introduction to the gas and oil industry.

The mammoth steel vessels are called shell-and-tube heat exchangers, but they look more like double-decker submarines. Gaspar is building three of them, each about 40 feet long, 12 feet tall and weighing 107,000 pounds.
